Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
