Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his first championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
